 Saints Coaching Staff

Head Coach Frank Kiefer

Frank Kiefer has an extensive background as a winning wrestling coach in the Southeastern United States. Coach Kiefer’s wrestling teams have won a total of 11 State Championships in the states of Georgia, North Carolina and Virginia. 7 of these 11 State Titles came in public school State Tournaments. Additionally, Coach Kiefer’s teams have won over 400 dual meets and his wrestlers have won nearly 70 individual State Titles. He has also coached 33 National Prep All Americans during his career. As a result of these accomplishments, Coach Kiefer has been awarded 10 State Coach of the Year awards and has been nominated numerous times for the prestigious National Coach of the Year award.

Most recently, Coach Kiefer’s St. Christopher’s team won the VISAA State Title in 2008 and again in 2009 and produced six Prep-All Americans in those two years. As recognition for his success in the 1990’s, Coach Kiefer was just recently inducted into The Westminster School’s Athletic Hall of Fame in March of 2008.

 

Assistant Coach Billy Abbott

Coach Billy Abbot has been associated with St. Christopher's wrestling for many years. This season, he is working with Coach Hudson and Canady with the middle school and JV programs, but he is always present at the varsity events. Coach Abbot is a tremendous scholar of wrestling, with his many years involved in the sport. 

 

 

 

Assistant Coach Ray Baldwin

Ray Baldwin is a former Virginia AAA state champion from Indian River High School. Ray wrestled for Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania in the early 1990's. During his collegiate career, Ray was a 2x NCAA East regional champion, a 2x NCAA Division I qualifier, and a PSAC champion. He later coached Maury High School to an Eastern district wrestling title. Ray also worked with current St. Christopher's head wrestling coach Frank Kiefer at The Westminster Schools in Atlanta. After, spending some years on sabbatical, Ray returned to coaching last year with Western Branch High School and experienced a lot of success with his wrestlers. Baldwin is a featured clinician with the Granby School of Wrestling.

 

Assistant Coach Adam Canady

Coach Adam Canaday, or "CC" as he is known to the wrestlers is in his 4th year on the staff at St. Christopher's. He was an outstanding wrestling at Freeman HS in Richmond, where he was a District and Regional Champion and State place winner. Canaday's outstanding work ethic and drive for success is paramount in the development of the wrestling program at St. Chris.

 

 

Assistant Coach Charlie Hudson

Coach Hudson is in his second year on the staff at St. Chris. He comes to us from Oak Knoll Middle School where he developed an outstanding wrestling program. His 2007-08 OKMS team finished the season undefeated. Hudson is in charge of the middle school and JV wrestling teams at St. Chris. He has an incredible work ethic and dynamic personality!

 

 

 

Assistant Coach Rob Prebish

Coach Rob Prebish enters his second year at St. Christopher's after spending seven years at Massaponax High School in Fredericksburg, VA where he was the head coach. He helped develop the wrestling program at Massaponax into a formidable team, producing numerous State tournament place winners and qualifiers. Prebish is also one of the Greco Roman coaches for the VA Wrestling Association. He has ten years of experience as a head wrestling coach at the high school level and will work with the lightweight wrestlers and help run the freestyle and Greco Roman program in the spring and summer. In 2008, he was the head coach of the USA team that won the Greco Roman tournament at the FILA Junior Pan American Championships in Cuenca, Ecuador.

 

 

Assistant Coach Matt Erwin

Coach Erwin is a new addition to the St. Christopher's staff, coming from Benedictine HS where he was the head wrestling coach. Erwin was a three-time NCAA qualifier and Southern Conference Champion for VMI with a career record of 109-40. He was a multiple-time state place winner in high school, competing for national power Graham HS in Ohio. His younger brother Dave, wrestles at Penn State. Erwin will work primarily with the upper weight wrestlers at St. Christopher's and is a much welcomed addition to the coaching staff.

 

 

Honorary Assistant Coach Micaiah Abts

While Coach Micaiah Abts is no longer coaching at St. Christopher's he will always remain a member of the staff. Abts relocated to New York in the summer of 2009 and will pursue interests there, hopefull involving wrestling in some aspect. Abts was a member of the Saints coaching staff from 1999-2009.  His main priority at St. Chris was to help develop the young talent and prepare them for their next step: up to the high school team. Coach Abts will always be a Saints coach!

Senior Edward Custer nearly tech-falled returning VISAA State Runner-Up Daniel Burke from Fork Union before sticking him for the pin, en route to a perfect 3-0 record at the VA Prep League Quad at Woodberry Forest.
